What is a UPC Barcode?

A UPC bar code is a unique 12-digit serial number that identifies your specific product among all the other products on the marketplace. Although there is no law that you must have a barcode, most retailers and distributors will require you to have one for inventory and sales records purposes.

What products can I use a Cravedog Barcode with?

You can use your Cravedog issued barcode for any item you wish to sell through an online or physical retailer. Your LP, CD, Digital album, Hot Sauce, T-shirts, Amplifier… the sky’s the limit!

Why do I need a barcode?

It is the standard method of tracking digital and physical music sales, allowing physical and online retailers to send your sales tallies to Nielsen SoundScan/Billboard every week. SoundScan reports your sales figures to the Billboard charts. So if you have dreams of topping the charts, the first thing you need is an official UPC barcode for your album or single.

If you are planning to sell your products in a retail market, you should have a barcode. You will be assigned and registered to your own unique barcode that identifies your company as the maker of the product. By having a registered barcode, your retail product can be scanned and the information embedded in the code will be in the system ready to go.
